Nelson H. Minnich, editor of the CHR, records Msgr. Trisco’s recollections of a lifetime of service to the field of Catholic studies.
Msgr. Trisco served as the Association’s Executive Secretary for 48 years and was the Catholic Historical Review’s managing editor for nearly as long.
The Jesuit priest and renowned scholar of Canadian Catholic history was a longtime ACHA member and leader of the Canadian Catholic Historical Association. He died Sept. 5 in Pickering, Ont. at age 89.
Dr. Kauffman’s career in Catholic education spanned more than half a century. It saw him publish several significant histories, including the Bicentennial History of the Catholic Church in America and American Catholic Identities: A Documentary History. He died Jan. 30 at age 81.
Rev. O’Connell, professor emeritus of history at the University of Notre Dame, was the ACHA’s 2013 Distinguished Scholar Award recipient. He died on Aug. 19.

James A. Powell, former ACHA president, retired Syracuse University professor, and medieval history expert died Jan. 27 at age 80 from complications following a car accident.
