University of Scranton
Candidate for Executive Council (2025-27)
Candidate statement
I am honored to be considered for a place on the ACHA Executive Council. My most recent work, The Devil and the Dolce Vita (2021) concerned the attempts by Italy’s Catholics – the Christian Democratic Party, Catholic Action, and the Church, itself – to confront or tame the tide of secularization that followed World War Two. A manuscript concerning Italy’s “Home Front” in World War Two has passed the peer reviews; and I am beginning a new study on America’s approach to Italy, in many respects as a force for secularization, and the reaction among Italians across the political spectrum. My goal as a member of the Council would simply be twofold: act as a force to bring together all ACHA members and to do what I can to assist them in reaching their goals. To serve our friends and colleagues is a duty I take very seriously and joyfully. For nine years I served as our History Department Chair at The University of Scranton and from 2013 to 2022 as the Secretary Treasurer of the Society for Italian Historical Studies. I gained some experience on the ACHA Executive Council a few years back and would be happy to do so again.
