(2025-27)

Candidate statement

Alex Gruber is a second-year PhD student in Fordham University’s Department of Theology. Alex has written for America Magazine and US Catholic on racial justice, LGBTQ+ Catholics, and mental health.

Inspired by the Norbertine charism of communio and his background in residential education in higher ed, Alex has a passion for nurturing community. He values how the ACHA has pursued this goal among those drawn to the history of Catholicism. Alex sees a position on the ACHA Executive Council as an opportunity to contribute to this work of keeping the humanities human and bringing the wide range of people, institutions, and fields in touch with Catholic history together in mutual esteem and support. His experience in archives in the Oneida Nation, Wisconsin, and Europe; popular and scholarly publications; and higher education in student, staff, and adjunct roles will serve him well as an Executive Council Member.
