Candidate statement for 2018 ACHA Election
As a member of the ACHA since graduate school, I have gratefully benefited from the collegiality and mentorship of many association members. I have organized, chaired, and presented at panels for national and regional conferences since 1997. in addition to my ongoing scholarship on medieval church reform, my particular focus in recent years has been professional development for my peers (especially the upcoming generation of scholars) in three areas: working with the media, offering public lectures, and getting published in scholarly outlets—tasks at the service of putting current events in historical context. I think the ACHA should increase its work at regional and national conferences in these dimensions of our field and careers. We need to be public historians and to commit ourselves to cultivating how to play that role.
I thank you for considering my candidacy.
