ACHA grant opportunities

In an effort to provide more services and benefits to the members of the ACHA, the Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the ACHA is pleased to announce the following Grant opportunities for 2016 and 2017:

Funding will be awarded on a competitive basis to individuals who promote the mission of the American Catholic Historical Association: scholarly pursuit of the study of Catholicism.  All those competing for ACHA grants must be a member at the time he/she applies and remain a member-in-good-standing through the duration of the grant.

For all categories, a maximum of $1000 in grant dollars is available.

All applications have to be sent to the office of Secretary-Treasurer at acha@fordham.edu.

Receiving the funding

Once awarded, recipients will receive half the funding before the travel or event takes place.  The other half of the grant will be awarded upon submission of an after action report, suitable for publication on the ACHA website, detailing one’s research. Acknowledgment of ACHA funding is expected.


Graduate Student Summer Research Grant

Application period: February 24-April 30, 2017
Announcement: Spring 2017

The American Catholic Historical Association is accepting applications for its 2017 Graduate Student Summer Research Grants beginning in through April 30, 2017.  Grant monies will be awarded to ACHA graduate student members who are ABD and attending an accredited institution of higher learning. This year the ACHA will again fund three (3) $1000 grants.

Funding will be awarded on a competitive basis to individuals who promote the mission of the American Catholic Historical Association: scholarly pursuit of the study of Catholicism.  All those competing for ACHA grants must be a member at the time he/she applies and remain a member-in-good-standing through the duration of the grant.

When preparing one’s submission, the following material must be included: 

1) A two page (max.) request narrative, explaining one’s research project and how the grant will further that endeavor.

2) c.v.

3) Letter of support from one’s dissertation director. This letter has to confirm your ABD status and should complement one’s request narrative.

Presidential Graduate Travel Grants

Application deadline:  March 15, 2017
Announcement: mid/late March 2017

The American Catholic Historical Association is now accepting applications from graduate student members presenting at the 2017 Spring Meeting to be held in Berkeley, California, April 6-9, 2017.

Two travel grants of $500 each will be awarded. When applying, one should submit the following:
  • A letter formally applying for the grant and detailing the content of one’s paper (no more than two pages in length)
  • c.v.
  • A letter of recommendation from a faculty member–preferably the dissertation director (sent by the recommender directly to ACHA).

Submission deadline is March 15th.  Announcements of awards will be made shortly thereafter.
