ACHA grant opportunities

In an effort to provide more services and benefits to the members of the ACHA, the Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the ACHA is pleased to announce the following Grant opportunities for 2018.

Funding will be awarded on a competitive basis to individuals who promote the mission of the American Catholic Historical Association: scholarly pursuit of the study of Catholicism.  All those competing for ACHA grants must be a member at the time he/she applies and remain a member-in-good-standing through the duration of the grant.

Graduate Student Summer Research Grant

Application period: January 16-April 30, 2018
Announcement: Spring 2018

The American Catholic Historical Association is accepting applications for its 2018 Graduate Student Summer Research Grants through April 30, 2018.  Grant monies will be awarded to ACHA graduate student members who are ABD and attending an accredited institution of higher learning. This year the ACHA will fund four (4) $2500 grants.

Funding will be awarded on a competitive basis to individuals who promote the mission of the American Catholic Historical Association: scholarly pursuit of the study of Catholicism.  All those competing for ACHA grants must be a member at the time he/she applies and remain a member-in-good-standing through the duration of the grant.

Once awarded, recipients will receive half the funding before the travel or event takes place.  The other half of the grant will be awarded upon submission of an after action report, suitable for publication on the ACHA website, detailing one’s research.  In all cases, acknowledgment of ACHA funding is expected.

When preparing one’s submission, the following material must be included: 

1) A two page (max.) request narrative, explaining one’s research project and how the grant will further that endeavor.

2) c.v.

3) Letter of support from one’s dissertation director. This letter has to confirm your ABD status and should complement one’s request narrative.

Presidential Graduate Travel Grants

Application deadline:  March 15, 2018
Announcement: mid-/late March 2018

For the Spring 2018 Meeting, the ACHA is awarding two (2) Presidential Graduate Student Travel Grants in the amount of $500.  To be eligible, graduate students must be presenting a paper at the Spring conference. Funding applications (a letter applying for the grant, including a brief description of one’s paper, a CV, and a faculty letter of recommendation) must be submitted to acha@fordham.edu by March 15, 2018. Recipients will be notified shortly thereafter.

In addition, the ACHA has allotted up to twenty (20) Graduate Student Lodging Grants in the amount of $100 each. To be eligible, graduate students must be presenting a paper at the Spring Meeting and note their graduate student status in their application.  Grants will be awarded on a first come, first served basis.

Submission deadline is March 15th.  Announcements of awards will be made shortly thereafter.
